ABOUT SOUND
Some Answered Questions
Wait, what? How does sound heal?
I never really questioned how or why Sonotherapy works. When the idea that sound can heal was introduced to me, my reaction was, "Yeah, of course it can. That's what we musicians have been up to the whole time." But when we talk about it, it sounds more like, "My album is finished and I feel like I'm on top of the world!" or "I put my heart and soul into that record" or "I'm quitting college so I can tour the country in my van". That being said, the foundation that sound can be an effective modality for therapy is built from so many different blocks. In this section, I'll do my best to sum it up.
What is sound healing?
Sound healing is a form of vibrational medicine. Sound has been used for healing around the globe since ancient times. The most common use of sound in modern western medicine is the ultrasound which is used during pregnancy for monitoring unborn babies. In Israel, medical inventor Dr. Yoav Medan, developed a technique that uses targeted ultrasound to remove brain lesions, uterine fibroids and cancer. His procedure takes about 10 minutes and requires no cutting or anesthesia. For decades, the field of Music Therapy has well documented the benefits of using sound for certain types of rehabilitation as well as for healing from psycho-emotional trauma. We know from Physics that the human body, just like everything in the Universe, is made up of vibration which is sound. In Traditional Eastern Medicine, disease, illness and pain in the body are seen as disharmonious vibrations. Sound healing is, essentially, the art and science of bringing the body back into harmony.
What is sound healing with tuning forks?
There are many methods of sound healing with tuning forks. One method developed by Eileen McKusick, Human Biofield Tuning, includes using tuning forks throughout the energy field in order to find and balance disharmonies. Another method developed by Donna Carrey and Marjorie de Muynck, Acutonics, is based on principles of Eastern medicine and includes placing the stem of the vibrating tuning fork on acupressure points in order to increase blood circulation, remove blockages and harmonize the body’s vital and energetic systems. There are other methods as well. The frequencies and combination of frequencies that are used vary from method to method.
What is the cosmic octave?
Planetary frequencies were originally calculated in the 1600’s by astronomer, Johannes Kepler. Kepler’s calculations were so accurate they are still used by NASA today. In the 1970’s, mathematician/musicologist, Hans Cousto, revisited Kepler’s planetary frequencies recalculating them into an audible range for human hearing. These frequencies are called the cosmic octave. Cousto later developed a set of cosmic octave tuning forks for therapeutic use. The frequencies we use for Balancing the Womb with Ohm are cosmic octave frequencies.
How does this protocol accelerate womb healing?
This protocol utilizes acupressure points (also know as acupoints) that have proven effective for treating gynecological disorders by Traditional Eastern Medicine for hundreds and hundreds of years. In addition, the respiratory, digestive, immune and circulatory systems will also be tuned. The frequencies selected for this protocol are calming, grounding and nourishing and will help the mind and body to relieve stress and reset.
Why tuning forks?
Tuning forks are ideal for lots of reasons. Here’s a list:
natural
non-invasive
pain free
low cost
easy to learn and use for self-care
small and portable, you can take them with you wherever they are needed (homes, hospitals, birth centers, rehab facilities)
highly effective
benefits are felt both physically and energetically
for parents of babies - use to relieve digestive discomfort or to calm baby for naptime
for parents of young children - use for boosting childrens' immunity or for relaxation during bedtime routine
for birthworkers - use throughout pregnancy to manage symptoms, during labor for pain relief and to regulate contractions, and postpartum to boost milk supply or relieve mastitis.
for music therapists - use to help alleviate symptoms of fear, anxiety and depression in clients
for acupuncturists - use on acupoints that are too painful to needle or on people who have an aversion to needles
for bodyworkers - use to permeate deeper into the tissue and bone and to re-pattern chronic conditions
Why it rocks...
In general, frequencies recalibrate the mind, body and spirit in a manner that is natural, gentle and effective. The body is an instrument.
Like any instrument, it needs tuning.
